Note: Elmira Star-Gazette ELIZABETH F. ‘BETTY’ CAMPBELL, age 85, of 408 Main St., Elkland, PA, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro, PA. She was born November 2, 1917 in Osceola, PA, the daughter of the late William and Florence Ward Elliott. She graduated from Elkland High School in 1935. She retired from the Elmira Star-Gazette after 54 years of service. She worked for many years as the secretary of the Elkland Leather Company. She and her husband, Jim, operated a Red & White store and in 1963, they opened Campbell’s Market and Meat Processing. They sold soft ice cream during the summer. She was a past Matron of Eastern Star and secretary of the Elkland Welfare Association and Alumni Association. She was active in the Elkland Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion and the Elkland Methodist Church. She taught the church’s Violet Rowe Sunday school class, played the organ and piano and sang in the church choir. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Elwin Smith of Osceola, PA, Florence Ann and Jon Sereno of Painted Post, NY; daughter, Jane Stewart of Osceola, PA; grandchildren, Bill and Tammy Colegrove of Lawrenceville, PA, Karen Colegrove and Lynn Harr of Harrisburg, PA. Doug and Teresa Seamans of Hanover, PA, Jeff and Wendy Seamans of Athens, PA, Craig and Amy Seamans of Bloomsburg, PA, Jamie Sereno of Daytona Beach, FL, and Autumn Sereno of Painted Post, NY; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and three sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Campbell, in 1971; and six brothers and two sisters. Friends are invited to call at the Osceola Methodist Church, Holden St., Osceola, PA, Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. immediately following the visitation. Rev. Larry O’Dell is officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Osceola, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Osceola United Methodist Church or a charity of the donors choice.
