Carpenter The funeral of Truman Erwin Carpenter, 85, who died at his home in Charleston township, was held Sunday afternoon at the Whitneyville church, following a prayer service at the home of his son, Claude Carpenter. Interment was in Mansfield cemetery. Mr. Carpenter was born June 9, 1855, at Middlebury, the son of the late Truman and Mary Hazlett Carpenter. He was married to the former Miss Addle Virginia Starkey of Middlebury in 1881. The marriage took place in Mansfield. Mr. Carpenter was a wheelwright by trade and lived in many parts of the state where his work called him. He owned and operated a farm in Catlin Hollow for many years, later purchasing a farm at Charleston, where he lived until his death. He had been ill for about four weeks. He was a member of Whitneyville Methodist church and of the Charleston Grange until about a year ago. Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife; one son, Claude Carpenter of Charleston; four grandchildren, Mrs. Doris Clark, of Endicott; Byron Benedict and Truman Benedict, of Lawrence Comers; Charles Carpenter of Charleston and a number of nieces and nephews.
