Note:   Wellsboro Agitator of Dec 8, 1885 has: --Mr. Charles Merritt has purchased the Taft farm at Nelson for $3,800. * * * Wellsboro Agitator of Apr 5, 1916, p1 has: Charles Merritt, a well known and highly respected citizen, died Thursday, being ill only an hour or so. Death was due to apoplexy. This community was greatly shocked at his sudden demise. He leaves a wife and five children. Burial in the Nelson cemetery." * * * PROMINENT NELSON MAN EXPIRES SUDDENLY Nelson, Pa., Mar. 31---Charles F. Merritt, one of the most prominent citizens of this section, died suddenly of apoplexy at his home here at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the age of 60 years. Mr. Merritt, who was a farmer has been a resident of this section all his life. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Odd Fellows Lodge here, and of the Masonic Lodge at Elkland. He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Ella Stoddard, a daughter, Mrs. Oren [sic] Beers of Tuscarora, N.Y., and five sons, all of this place, William, Walter, Harvey, Clifford and Gordon.
