While Faith was born in Ontonogan, MI her family moved to Oregon when she was a child. Faith grew up in Independence, OR where her father published the local newspaper. She graduated from Independence High School, and then earned a degree in Journalism at the University of Oregon in 1926. After a few years working on her father's paper, she went to New York in 1929 and earned a certificate from Columbia University, while living at the International House in Manhattan. Faith married John E Black in 1935. Their only son, Bruce Kimball Black, was born in 1945 while John served at Fort Lewis. She worked as Dean of Women at the Oregon College of Education during WWII, then in real estate with John after the war. Making their home in Salem after the war, both lived there the rest of their lives. Faith was a lifelong weaver, and a fixture at Mission Mill Museum, where she made countless friends. She was also a proud, 81-year member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution, continuing to attend meetings up until the last year of her life. She is survived by her grandson, Adrian Kimball Black of Portland. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Faith's honor to the Willamette Heritage Center. Services will be held at the Mission Mill in Salem, February 9th at 2pm.
