Note: r grandfathers). They had no children in common. This information has been told down through the generations. David Jones bible states that FiddlingJack Asher was her father. However, her death certificate verifies that her father was Dillion (Dill) Asher and her mother was Rachel Fields. Dillion died when Bam was about 1 year old and Bam told her family that her mother died, along with all but one of her siblings, when she was very small. I believe that, as a custom inthe mountains, Fiddlin Jack, Dillion's brother, took Bam in and raised her. This may explain why she and Jack's son, Dillion, were close and why she and Joe lived with Dillon and his wife, Janie Tuttle, for awhile. According to Mary Asher Travillian, Bam is listed in their family bible. Alabama'sname does not appear in Dillon and Rachel Asher's household in any census records but the first census that she would have shown up in 1890, was destroyed byfire and water damage which may explain why her name is not found. The next census would have beenin 1900 and according to our family information,Alabama had David at age 14, which, he was born in Clay County 4 years prior to the 1900 census and had alreadybeen adopted by the Jones family. Alabama was more than likely already marriedto Joe Asher.**Bell Co 1910 Census has Alabama (Spelled Alabam) age 27, as JoeAsher's (age 29) wife. Also listed in their household isDeborah Taylor, age 85, listed as mother in law. However, it would have been impossible her to be either's mother because of her age. I believe that she was either Alabama or Joe'sgrandmother. Deborah would have been 68 when Alabama was born!
Note: Alabama and Joe were related distantly, Old Dillion (Dillion 1) was one of thei
