Note: 01) There is a little problem identifing the Thomas Carle, born 1743 who died at Forshays Corners, Dutchess Co., with the Thomas Carle, born 1743, who immigrated to New Brunswick after the American Revolution peace accord of 1783. It would appear that Thomas Of Forshays Corners father could have been Joseph Carle (spouse - Aimy Wilson; or Samuel Carle from the genealogies that I have reviewed. It gets more interesting when you look at Thomas Carle who was paying taxes in 1777. It seemed that he could be the husband of Margaret; or Susannah Angevine before he moved to New Brunswick. A date of birth of 1743 for someone who married about 1767 is not unreasonable. In fact, the Thomas Carle who began paying taxes in 1767 fits the bill. But who is the widow??? Or perhaps the right question to ask is whose widow. From the notes that I have on Dutchess/Putbam Ctys. (without much confidence), Interestingly, that 1777 does not show up in the recently publshed list (Sept. 1999):- Fredericks Pre. Tax: (1777):- Thomas Carle Jr. ... ?Est. 1 pound, Thomas Carle ...........Est. 3 pounds The published tax records list:- Southern Precinct for the years 1740/41 i) CARL, CARLE, CARLY, KARL ...Thomas ... 1769-1771 to Fredericksburg - Fredericksburg for the years 1772-1779 i) CARL, CARLE, KARL ...Thomas ... . 1772; estate 1778; widow 177... (assume 1779) ... Thomas Jr. 1774; estate 1778-1779 ... Adonijah ....1775 The standard line about Thomas Carle is: Thomas Carle (5), born 1743, was the son of Joseph Carle (4), who was born 1713, married in Hempstead in the year 1739 Aimy Wilson and died 1759 in North Castle, Westchester Co. Thomas Carle (3) married Mary Griffin in 1718 at Flushing Quaker meeting. Thomas Carle (2), Thomasa Carle (1) died 1676/7 at Hampstead. Don't put too much faith in this genealogy. The "standard" genealogy merged two different Thomas Carles. This Thomas Carle (who was the son of Samuel Carle, died about1807/8, at Frederickstown, Dutchess Co., now Kent, Putnam Co., New York) has been mistaken for Thomas Carle who was the son of Joseph Carle. Where Thomas Carle, son of Joseph Carle, was between 1759, when his father died and 1769 when he started being "taxed" in Dutchess is a quandry, don't know. Joseph's Carle will stated: "To son, Thomas, land in Dutchess Co., when he became of age" would have been 10 February 1764." That assumes that the father, Joseph Carle, thought 21 was the "coming of age". Any genealogical research that I have seen has made that assumption. (Informant:- Janet T.
