  Thomas apparently died before 1918, as evidenced by the lack of any mention of him in the otherwise complete - and highly accurate - obituary for his brother James. The obituary appeared in the Daily Kennebec Journal on 27 September 1918. It provides much useful information about this family:
  "James C. Carlin passed away Thursday afternoon at his home, 39 Eastern avenue, aged 52 years. Besides the wife and one son the immediate survivors are four brothers, Cornelius of Augusta, William of New York City, and Stephen and Peter of Boston. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning from St. Mary's Catholic church."
