Note: Timothy2, Timothy1) was born November 19, 1857, in Gadsden County, FL. Orphaned at Manatee at about age eight, he was taken by his uncle Will McClay to Quincy. Said to have been a fine young man, he later lived in Pensacola, where he worked as a stevedore. Later manager of the Pensacola Opera House, he founded Coe's Bookstore of Pensacola and was senior partner in the book and stationary enterprise of Dow & Coe. "One of Pensacola's most prominent merchants," in 1902 he took into partnership Charles W. Lamar, later president of the American National Bank of Pensacola, and founded Pensacola Amusement Company, which operated the opera house, and Pensacola Advertising Company, a poster business created to advertise the opera house. After deciding to dissolve the partnership in 1908, a flip of a coin gave the poster company to Lamar. Considered a stroke of luck for Coe, multi-million dollar Lamar Outdoor Advertising is now one of the largest logo sign companies in the United States. Of sterling business and moral qualities, he died in Pensacola September 25, 1915. Burial was at St. John's Cemetery.
He was married October 14, 1891, at Christ Church, Pensacola, FL, by Reverend Eben D. Moreno (brother of the bride) of New Orleans, LA, to Ruth M. Moreno, quite a Southern woman, born August 4, 1866, in Pensacola, died March 11, 1920, in the same city, daughter of James Nicholas and Clara (Dory) Moreno. Their honeymoon was spent in New York, via Cincinnati, Washington and Philadelphia. Upon their return to Pensacola, they made their home on North Reus Street.
A lady of rare intellectual attainments and social accomplishments, Ruth Moreno was descended from "The King of Pensacola," don Francisco Moreno, an early Spanish diplomat and Pensacola's first banker, "whose descendants comprised one of Pensacola's best families." Mrs. Coe's aunt Angela Moreno was married to Stephen R. Mallory, Confederate Secretary of the Navy and a US Senator. Burial was at St. John's Cemetery.
