a. Note:   Came from Shelby County Ky to Harrison County Indiana around 1814.
  In 1814 there is a deed showing that Alexander and Jane sold 58 3/4 acres on 9 mile run, a branch of long Run, to Administrators of John Hardin. The deed originally had Shelby County but it was scratched out and Jefferson County added. Long Run overlaps Jefferson and Shelby Counties. The above information was obtained from Betty Matthews, a researcher for Shelby County Historical Society. I only give deed info here to back up the fact that Alexander and Jane came to Indiana in 1814 as stated in John Mathes' obituary
  On the 1900 Kansas State census listing for Nancy Mathis McMahon, it lists both of her parents as being born in Virginia
