The frist know ancestor of the Van Eps family was Dirck Van Eps, b. about 1603 in the Netherlands. He married Maritie Damen & came to New Netherland about 1650. He died about 1652. She died before 1682. Lived in Albany, NY. Issue: . Lysbeth b. ca. 1623; mar. Gerrit Bancker; Johannes b. ca. 1630; mar. Elizabeth Janse.
  First Settlers of Schenectady, pg. 221: Johannes, son of Dirk, m. Elisabeth Janse. His mother purchased for him a bouwery on the Groote Vlachte and a house & lot in the village in 1664. His lot, about 200 ft square, was on the north corner of State & Church streets. In the massacre of 1690 he was killed with two of his children. His wid. afterwards, July 23, 1693, m. Gysbert Gerritse Van Brakel.
  The Van Eps Family, by Howard A. McConville, pg. 18: 3. Johannes son of Dirck and Maritie Damen Van Eps b. about 1630 in the Netherlands; mar. ca. 1666 at Albany, NY, Elizabeth Janse Douw. He had a house & lot in Schenectady in 1664, on the north corner of State & Church Sts. He died 8 Feb. 1690 in the Schenectady massacre. Lived in Schenectady, NY. Issue: 4. Maria b. ca 1667; mar. Dirck Bradt; 5. Johannes Baptist b. ca 1673; mar Helena Glen; 6. Elizabeth b ca 1674; mar (1) Teunis Viele; (2) Jelis Van Vorst; 7. Evert b. ca 1684; mar (1) Eva Toll, (2) Elizabeth Traux; 8.   Van Vorst Papers, Schenectady Library: He was killed in the Schenectady massacre of 1690 along with one of his sons. The family lot was on the NE corner of State and Church streets.
