Griffis of the Western District, died some months ago. - Apr. 7, 1847, p. 98, 0. Also: Griffis, Mrs. Content, wife of Wm. Griffis Sr., died in Fredericksburgh twp., Dec. 2, 1846; age 84 y., 10m., 10days. -Jan. 6, 1847, p47. D.N. ------------ Source: Bill Smith - One of my lines is the Harris family of Block Island, Rhode Island & Lyme Connecticut & Beekman in Dutchess NY. Content or Tunta in Dutch was born Tunta Noxon in Beekman. She married her cousin Joseph Harris on 13 Mar 1780 at Hopewell Dutch Reform Church. Joseph was a widower and had been married to Annetyje Johanna Viele since 1747 and one of their sons was Baltus, my 5th g grandfather. Baltus married Anna Noxon, Tunta's sister. They were daughters of Bartholomew Noxon & Anna Losee. Joseph & Tunta had a son Noxon b 24 Jan 1784 in Beekman. d 21 Aug 1865 in Adolphustown. He married Elizabeth Maybee. His first son was William Griffiths Harris and that is what made me look for Griffith or Griffis connection.

They were of Beekman and he was noted in the marriage register as a widower. He was a large landowner in Beekman and some land transactions follow. Child: (by second wife) xvi.
