Subj: Van Vorst Line Date: 2/10/00 12:29:52 PM Pacific Standard Time From: dspepper To: Jacboni As far as I can understand from the historical readings which I have come across, my line is Gerrit Janszen VanVorst 1618-1712; Jacobus Gerritse Van Vorst 1642-1720 who md Sarah Jillis Fonda; Jillis Jacobus Van Vorst c1670 who md Elizabeth Van Eps 16 July 1699; then Jacobus Van Vorst bc1703 who md Anna Beck in Albany, NY Feb. 14, 1728; Abraham Van Vorst bc1743 who md Maria Heemstraat about 1769. Their dau. Rebecca Van Vorst bapt. Mar. 5, 1782 md Orange Monroe. His name is in Schn. census of 1810. Orange and Rebecca V. had at least seven children from 1802 - 1815. I do not know when or where they died. Their dau., Hannah Monroe md James STOUT in Jackson Co. In March 29, 1837. He had been born in NJ, apprenticed as a tanner, and perhaps was working at that trade when he met his first wife, Martha "Ann" Osborne. They were md Jan. 16, 1823 in Dover, HowellTwp. Monmouth Co. NJ. (The Osborne name occurs in some of this line and I think that they may have been neighbors or friends.) ANN and James Stout had the following ch: Abraham Osborne Stout b March 17, 1823 who md Olive "Maria" Brown; Ellen Stout bc1824 who md John McVey; Hannah Ann Stout bc1825 who md Isaac Partlow; William Brown Stout b Apr. 28, 1827 who md Amanda Tewell, then Hannah M. It is hard to make the correct connection.); James Nelson Stout #2 b June 9, 1834 md Rachel Mann. Then Martha Ann gave up and died about 1834. The story is that Ann died at the birth of James Nelson Stout #2. The family came to Jefferson Co. IN about 1833. Seven children in 11 years was probably not unusual. James md. Hannah Monroe in Jackson Co. IN March 29, 1837. Their ch: Sarah Stout b Sep 1839 md John Tewell; REBECCA b 1841 (my ancestor) md Thomas Jefferson SHORT (His wife had died and left 3 children with his mother in Clermont Co. OH in October 1862. He md REBECCA STOUT in May 1863 while AWOL from Civil War. I do not know why, but they remarried iin her maiden name in 1878 and had 4 children very late in life. Did his mother not like REBECCA? Would REBECCA not go to Clermont Co. OH? Was there another woman? Was he in jail or something? Rebecca Stout lived with her brother in Scott Co. IN 1870 census.)
