Notes
a. Note:   I don't know anything about Minnie May Baker's (Nanny Abbott as I knew her) family. I remember her as a very old lady, dressed entirely in brown, with a very large bosom. She scared the living daylights out of me as a kid. Formidable is the word that describes her best. She lived in the back of the lino and carpet store in High Street, Homerton, where the conditions were really Victorian but she wouldn't leave. She suffered great memory loss following a terrible bout of gastro-enteritis when she nearly died. She was always kind to me but didn't seem to have much time for the rest of my cousins. I guess, because we didn't live close by, I had some rarity value! She had a great love of the drink Advocaat (a thick, yellow, liqueur). We would take her a bottle every Christmas Eve. She would look at it and say "What's this? Bleedin' custard!!!" Of course, she knew exactly what it was!
