John and his brother David served in Capt. McKissicks Co 6th Battalion in the American Revolution. Sons of the American Revolution has several descendents as members #071746, 091365, 119489, 126149, 129924, 134237. Information given as John Gemmill 15 July 1745 PA-Sep 24, 1798 PA m. Agnes Wallace and has son William Gemmill m. Martha Jane Edie, and son James Gemmill m. Betsy McPherson. #126149 says Maj in PA Militia. York Co Historical Society file says he died April 2, 1798 not possible if will probated March 5.
