Here in Franklin Twp, he purchased a lot just opposite the grist-mill on which he erected a house in which he carried on his tailoring trade, the first in the place. He was a strong advocate of the common school system adopted 1834-1835 for which he fought at the polls and elsewhere to establish. He was identified with early temperance movements of the day and was the first man in his neighborhood to raise a building without the use of whiskey. In 1830 he moved to Mercer Co, after a short time he moved to Allegheny Twp in this county to a farm he had bought and on which he died in 1876. His widow as of 1882 was still residing there at the age of 86."
