a. Note:   . He continued to care for his mother-in-law until her passing in 1921. In 1920 he was elected Judge of the Fifty-seventh Judicial Circuit, Pike and Dubois Counties. Won over Bomar Taylor by 239 votes. John was the first Republican to be elected to this Circuit.
Note:   Studied and practice law in Jasper, Indiana. Later moving to Yankton, South Dakota he continued the practice. After several years he and his wife returned to Indiana to take care of his mother-in-law Margret Sherrett. Here his wife passed away
