Note: who left Ireland on a sailing ship headed for America. The ship'scaptain, overwhelmed by having so many Irish aboard with similiarsounding names, asked these three brothers to temporarily drop the(O') from their name while on the sea voyage. The brothers weretherefore referred to as the Donald brothers. So in the earlier years,here in America, neither Henry, his wife Mary, nor their childrencould read nor write. Henry signed his will as Henry O'Donald; hiswife's was signed Mary Donnell and witnessed by her son Henry Donel.Sons Charles and John used Donnell. Then in later years Charles beganusing Daniel. When the family name was spoken, with an Irish andcolloquial mixture, no wonder the family name was spelled phoneticallyand differently by anyone who heard it. With the exception of son JohnDonnell, all other descendants today use either Daniel or Daniels. !Henry bought 336 acres in Washington Co, PA which were surveyed on 18Nov 1789.
