Note: On the 1880 Smith County, KS census she worked in a hotel. Due to the U.S. Civil War, birth records might be hard to find for 1860-1863. Birthdate of Sept. 15, 1862, is from a family bible in Isaac's hand writing. Sarah strung beads for Herbert, Edward, Frank, Walter, and Maude before she died. Wrote to Linn Co., lookup volunteer and she could not find a burial, death or obit for Sarah Yenne. Sarah, (Hebrew) princess. Bible: the wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. 1861--Kansas women were given the right to vote in school elections, far earlier than in most states. 09/15/1862 - Confederates conquer Union-weapon arsenal at Harpers Ferry WV 1872--"Home on the Range" written in Smith County. 31 Jul/Sep 1874--Grasshopper plague (Rocky Mountain Locust) visited Kansas. The grasshopper invasion devastated crops (corn) in Kansas and many people lost nearly everything. Aid (clothes, provisions and money) was sent from the East to help the people get through the hard winter. 1879--The prominent issue of the Kansas legislature was prohibition. 1880--An amendment to the Kansas Constitution approved by Kansas voters prohibited the manufacture, sale, or gift of all forms of intoxicating liquor. Kansas became the first state in the United States to pass this controversial amendment.
