God has been gracious to me and I am thankful for his care. Note: Lillie dropped out of school to help raise her brothers. After moving to Nubia, Texas the Carothers family became acquainted with the Aaron Jackson Teague family. Aaron's wife, Cordelia, got sick and they hired Lillie to watch over her. She would also read poetry to her. One of Aaron Jackson's sons, Richard Skelton Teague, told his friends how ugly Lillie was (She wasn't) and when Lillie got wind of this she said, "I'll show him!". They started seeing each other and were married on June 17, 1908 and stayed married for over 69 years until Richard died on July 8, 1977.
