Note:   (Research):Birth Certificate Details Born 25 November 1858 St John Street Bridgwater Somerset. Mother Jane Hucker. Registered by Robert Kift Occupier of 57 St John Street Bridgwater. He made his Mark. The father was not mentioned on the Birth certificate. It has taken a lot of digging to establish the parents of Albert. His existence is proven by the 1861 and 1871 censuses which have him living with his grandparents John HUCKER and Mary. Albert's birth certificate (obtained by Kevin Tucker) shows his mother as Jane HUCKER but no father. The birth was registered by Richard KIFT. Richard KIFT's wife was Jane (ne HUCKER) daughter of John HUCKER and Mary. The immediate assumption was therefore that Jane KIFT (ne HUCKER) was the mother but why would Richard KIFT register his wife's child as illegitimate? And why the strange description of him on the birth certificate (occupier )? It was the purchase of the marriage certificate by Kevin which showed that Albert's father was William HUCKER. John HUCKER and Mary have a son William who married Jane HUCKER (daughter of William HUCKER and Hannah). This Jane HUCKER is the first cousin of both William HUCKER (her husband) and Jane KIFT (ne HUCKER). Thus the picture becomes clear: Jane HUCKER (Daughter of William HUCKER and Hannah) gets pregnant out of wedlock. We must assume that William is the father. She may have been living in Bridgwater at that time or she may have gone there after becoming pregnant in any event she has the baby at the home of her cousin Jane KIFT (ne HUCKER) on 25/11/1858. Richard KIFT goes to the registry office and registers the birth giving the name of Jane HUCKER (not Jane his wife) and the father as unknown. Hence the strange information given by the informant as Occupier of 57 St John Street Bridgwater. Eight months later Jane marries William. We also do not know whether Albert was brought up by his grandparents or whether it was a coincidence that he was living with them on the two census dates..
