  His occupation was a farmer and he was a Baptist. He was a Captain in the Maryland Militia in 1777. George Burkett was recommended as Captain of a Company of Militia in Frederick County, Maryland and endorsed in a Commission dated 13 October 1777. His name appears on a List of Accounts settled by the State of Maryland for Expense of Prisoners of War for pay of Militia in the Continental Service which is dated 14 March 1782. This service has been accepted as authentic by the DAR.
