Note: From a Bery Family History commentary sent to me (David A. Crea of Pocatello, ID) by e-mail from Rodney Jackson of Shreveport, LA?) in March of 2000: Some internet correspondents told me Joel Berry married Ann Holsworth while others told me he married Nancy Feagan. So far, I have not found a record of his marriage to anyone. One list of his children goes like this: William, born about 1776; Elizabeth; Mollie, born about 1784, married James Ellis in 1805, Pendleton County, KY; Rebecca, born 1789, married Richard Mullins; Holesworth, born about 1794, married Mary Stevenson, 1818, Mason County. Excerpts from a letter from Lila Wylie: "As far as I know Joel was married only once to Ann Holesworth. Confusion arises because Nancy was used as a nickname for Ann. There is a marriage record of George and Elijah Berry in Fauquier County, Va marrying Susanna Feagan and Clara Feagan, these men moved to Mason County, Ky a few years before Joel. It's possible their wives have become confused with Joel. My most important evidence is an application for SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) by Eli Edwards, g grandson of Joel, grandson of his daughter Mary (Molly). Eli was born in 1856 when family history was still fresh, he didn't know her first name. I have deeds from Joel's Kentucky land sales and sometimes his wife is Nancy and sometimes Anne. The earliest one is 1792 when Joel and wife Anna sold a lot, Mason County DB A-148 27 March 1792. In 1803 they are in Montgomery County and Joel and wife Nancy sold some acreage. In 1805 (Book 7, p. 8). In 1805 the consent for daughter Molly to marry James Ellis is signed by Joel and Ann Berry. (Pendleton County Marriage Records Book 7, p. 11). In 1843 Campbell County, Ky Nov term 1845, satisfactory proof was brought to the court by Rebecca B. Mullins that Nancy wife of Joel Berry was deceased by 1818. All of which does not prove that Joel didn't have another wife who was the mother of Rebecca, William, and Mary Ann with Holesworth being the child of Ann Holesworth. Lila Wylie"
