a. Note:   OCCUPATION: farmer and minister He was a farmer and minister in the Church of the Brethren. In 1873 he sold his Pennsylvania farm and moved to Illinois. For the sake of his family's health, in 1891 he moved to the San Jacinto Valley, CA, where he became a prosperous farmer. He was instrumental in establishing the Egan German Baptist Church, later Church of the Brethren. By 1893, it had 30 members.
