Brower:] From the article in "The American Genealogist" V. 41: "At the time of his marriage, about 1682/3, Nathaniel Atwood was probably living in Lakenham, then part of Plymouth and although a church was formed in 1696, called the Upper Society; the town was not incorporated as Plympton until 4 June 1707 and the births and marriages had to be recorded at Plymouth before the latter date. That is probably why we find all of Nathaniel's children recorded in Plymouth. "There is no record of his marriage and it was noticed in this search that scarcely any marriage records in the Town of Plymouth are now extant for 1682-3. Nathaniel's father died in 1675-6 and in a short time he inherited the bulk of his estate, his brothers having died unmarried before or soon after their father." Nathaniel was buried in the Lakenham Cemetery which is on a hill overlooking the little village and was still in use at time of writing of the article in 1965. Lakenham was the early name for what is now North Carver. It was for some time part of the town of Plympton.
