Notes
a. Note:   Isaac, a Republican, lawyer, Circuit Judge 1858-1862 in Ohio, removed to Gaithersburg, MD in 1873, where he died. The widow lived with her daughter, Mrs. Munro until her death. Judge Ranney was a cultured gentleman, honorable and upright, respected by all, of a sweet nature and courtly manners. (Source: UMH)
Isaac & his two brothers went to California (gold rush?). In the 1860 Census he is shown as living in Seneca County, Ohio (town of Delaware?) and was employed as a life insurance salesman. UMH, of course, shows him a photo of him as a Circuit Judge in 1860!
[per "St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Dekaware, Ohio - First Hundred Years" by Mary Anne Dennison; courtesy of Delaware County Historical Assoc.": Isaac studied law with the firm of Sweetser & Barnes, was admitted to practice law in Delaware County in 1842. Elected County Prosecutor, and also served two terms as county probate judge from 1854 to 1862 Went to California by the overland route in 1857 - stayed about 2 years and returned to practice law. In 1861 was appointed Collector for the district. He had accumulated a large fortune, but frittered it away considerable by moving about frequently in Delaware County and other places. He settled ultimately on a farm 'in the valley of the Potomac a few miles from Georgetown, where he died.' [The children Myra Chase, Mary Ellen and Harry Willard evidently died young and are also buried in Oak Grove.]
