Title: Holden v.9b.FTW Text: Date of Import: Jan 20, 2001 =========================================================== Feb 2006 More info from Ted Westmoreland; Dear Dave, Thanks for the letter, yes, you are rigtht, I am descended fro Emily Walters. My grandfather Thomas Hollins was her youngest son. I have attached a document that gives as much information that I've got on the Walters and Biddulph families. I can't remember where I got the information about James Walters, if you are realy interested I can go through my old files, I've kept everything that other people have sent to me over the years. I got the will of Joseph Biddulph knocking about somewhere, if you haven't already got it I can send a transcript to you. ---- Emily was born in the early summer of 1845 at Shelton, Stoke on Trent, daughter of John Walters and Jane Biddulph. Emily is known to have been with both her father and her stepfather when they died. In her mid 20s she was working in service (as a maid, cleaner or cook) and was courting a young man who she later said she loved. Her mother knew a widower called William Hollins who had two young children and she wanted Emily to marry him because his children needed a mother. It is not known how much pressure her mother applied, but eventually she agreed and the marriage took place in the Parish church at Stone (Staffordshire) on the 22nd of April 1872. She started her new life with William, with his two children, Alice who was six, and William who was four, she bore William another eight children. She and her husband moved about quite a lot, as her first three children were born at Manilow Heath (as were Alice and William). The fourth and fifth were born in Stone, Adas birthplace isnt known; Annie was born in Wrexham, and Tom in Farndon. They were living at Burton on Irwell (Lancaster) when William died in early 1890. She later remarried to a widower called Humphrey Roberts. Shortly after her marriage her youngest son Tom left home and joined the Royal Navy. Humphrey died before the start of the First World War. After Humphreys death Emily moved Cheadle, to the home of her cousins (the Knotts). She died of cancer of the gall bladder on the 9th of July 1914 at Hall Orchard House, her niece Frances Knott was with her when she died. Emily was buried in Cheadle cemetery on the 3rd of August. Emilys second husband Humphrey was born in Wales about 1835, he worked as a builders foreman and had seven children to his first wife who died in late 1893. It is not known if any of his children were still living with him at the time of his marriage to Emily.
