 [Holden v.9b.FTW] JANE BIDDULPH Dates: 1801 / 1802 Jane was born to Joseph and Mary Biddulph at Ipstones, Staffs. At that time, although separated by the parishes of Kingsley and Cheadle, a part of Ipstones was in the parish of Checkley. Jane is shown in censuses as having been born in Checkley until 1871 when she gives Ipstones as her place of birth 16 May 1802. Jane was baptised at Ipstones parish church.
 22 Dec 1817 16 yrs Married John Walters in Checkley parish church, Staffs. Age given in parish register as 26 yrs - husband's as 43 yrs - both incorrect Witnesses - James Walters, Samuel Hall and Maria - - - ?
 20 Nov 1818 17 yrs Mary, first daughter baptised at Checkley - died at 16 yrs. 1820 19 yrs Eliza, born at Checkley. 14 May 1821 20 yrs Elizabeth, baptised at Checkley parish church. 6 Jul 1823 22 yrs Sarah Ann, baptised at Checkley parish church. 24 Jul 1825 24 yrs John, first son of this marriage baptised at Checkley parish church. He later had a son born 1851 at Stoke on Trent.
 9 July 1827 26 yrs Jane baptised at Checkley parish church. Died 8 months later. 14 Dec 1828 27 yrs Martha Jane, baptised at Checkley. She became a school mistress and in 1881 was living at the School House, Teston, Kent.
 1830 29 yrs Ellen born. Married James Knott circa 1859 - children Frances, Saml J, Mary and Eliza A Knott.
 1831 30 yrs Maria born. She is shown on one census as being deaf. In 1881 she is living was living with and presumably nursing her ailing mother, Jane.
 1834 33 yrs James, born at Checkley. He served an apprenticeship with George Wright, the blacksmith at Fole and after a short time at Hollington became blacksmith at Great Gate, nr Checkley. The graves of his family can be found in the small churchyard at Croxden. He married Sarah Ann Melbourne on 20 Jan 1862 at Checkley and they had at least eleven children.
 15 May 1835 34 yrs Lucretia Mary was baptised at Checkley. In 1871 she was living with her mother at Black Lake, Staffs and at the time of the census in 1881 was visiting her brother James' family at Great Gate.
 1835-1837 34-36 yrs Moved with husband and family to Caverswall / Blythe / Dilhorne area of Staffs.
 17 Apr 1837 36 yrs Robert baptised in parish church of Caverswall, Staffordshire. 31 Jul 1839 38 yrs Thomas was born and baptised the same day. His birth certif. gives his place of birth as Blythe in the parish of Caverswall. In censuses his birth place is variously given as Dilhorne, Checkley, Blythe. In 1864 he married Elizabeth Ellse at North Wingfield, Derbs and after their first child, Gertrude was born at Checkley, they moved to Morton, Derbs where Thomas worked as a pit carpenter.
 1839-1841 38-40 yrs Jane and John moved back with family to Checkley. 18 Jul 1841 40 yrs Elizabeth Adelaide was baptised at Checkley. In 1861 she married Henry Gower of Willington.
 13 Nov 1842 41 yrs Emma baptised at Checkley parish church - mother given as Sarah Walters possibly the daughter of Jane's daughter Sarah Ann ? Emma died 1854.
 18 Apr 1843 42 yrs William was baptised at Checkley. 1845 44 yrs Emily was born. She was present at the deaths of both her father, John and her stepfather.
 circa 1850 49 yrs Husband, John was paralysed for some years before his death in 1856. 1 Nov 1856 55 yrs Jane's husband died at Checkley - cause of death given as paralysis. 7 Apr 1861 60 yrs Jane was living at Checkley with her children, Eliza, James, Thomas and Elizabeth and her grandson John.
 1861-1864 55-63 yrs Went to live at Moddershall Grange, Moddershall (near Blythe) Staffs. 15 Nov 1864 63 yrs Married John Nicklin, 65, a widower and a blacksmith of Meir Heath, (son of Samuel Nicklin) at the parish church at Stone, Staffordshire.
 28 Jun 1871 70 yrs 2nd husband , John Nicklin, died at the age of 76 of old age and debility.
 1871-1881 70-80 yrs By 1881 Jane was living at Checkley again with her daughter, Maria. 1877 76 yrs Jane developed increasing senility and paralysis of the left side. 27 Apr 1881 80 yrs Paraplegic for 12 days before death. 9 May 1881 80 yrs Jane died at Checkley Fields, Checkley, Staffordshire. 12 May 1881 Death reported to Registrar by Sarah Durose who was present at death. Death certificate gives her age at death as 81 years. According to the rector's plan, no marked Walters graves remain in Checkley churchyard.
