Note: MUNCIE - Baird W. Davis, age 71, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was born April 24, 1939 in Muncie. He attended Muncie Central High School before joining the Marines in 1956 where he served his country from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Amvets, Moose Lodge, Muncie Masonic Lodge #433 F. & A.M. Scottish Rite and Blue Knight Indiana #1 where he organized the first Blue Knight's Chapter in Indiana. He worked for the Muncie Police Department from 1966-1997 and retired as Captain. Muncie Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Center from 1999-2004, Davis Refrigeration, where he was owner and operator for 15 years, and a Meat Cutter for Marsh, A & P, and Gommels. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Norma (Everhart) Davis. 3 Sons, Michael (wife Pam) Davis, Baird (wife Kaylyn) Davis and Neil (wife Tammy) Brandon; 2 Daughters, Leanne Davis and Jeni Hale; 12 Grandchildren, Aaron Gunckel, Michael Brandon Davis, Baird Wesley Davis, Sara Davis, Keith Gauze, Amanda Kessler, Samantha Smith, Shad Smith, Joshua Smith, Neil Brandon Jr., Sarrah Brandon, and Rebekkah Brandon; 3 Great Grandchildren, Serenity Kessler, Scarlett Kessler, and Cynthia Bright; Brother Richard (wife Ruth) Davis; Nieces, Cathy Kohli and Jan Davis; Nephews, Robert Davis, Matt (wife Amy) Davis; and special Aunt Pal Alderson; Special Friends and Neighbors, David Smith, Dennis and Teresa Spears, Glen and Wendy Spears, Vicki Spears, Cindy Davis, Jeff Drake, Dave Haney, Bruce and Deloris Flynn, Larry Ault, Kim Armstrong, Steve and Lisa Mabbott, and Paul Carpenter. He is preceded in death by his Parents Baird Worth and Margaret (Bell) Davis; Brother and Sister-in-law, Robert and Ramonia Davis; Grandson Ryan Poling; Special Friends JC and Jane Spears, Jerry Spears and Roger Upchurch; and Baird's faithful companion Sugar. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Bunch officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home with Masonic Rites at 7:00 pm. Burial take place at Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Military Rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
