Note:   As a Boy, Dee Brubaker born in 1919 told stories about his Grandfather William Ira Davis (Bill) as well as a story about his Grandma Minnie Baird.
The first story involves around 1925 and Dee remembers How he would stoke the fire for Bill as he would Fix horseshoes for his customers. Bill was a well Known Blacksmith in his time with a shop in Muncie Indiana. Bill would fill his covered wagon with furniture and ride around Dunkirk with a team of horses selling what he could and on Fridays was a special Day. On Friday he would go to different farmers and buy chickens and bring them home to Minnie for her to Kill and defeather them and cook them overnight so on Saturday he would go to the women of the town and sell the meals to make them a profit. Dee also told me a story thay Bill was the worst driver. His grandpa asked him to go with him into downtown Muncie one day and of Course Dee was very excited to go with grandpa for any reason. As the Trip began in Bills Model T and as they approached Muncie downtown, Dee had noticed that the new fangled street lights that were a new technology during that time to control Traffic was a burden to Bill and he ran every light. Bill had stated that he was not paying no mind to the new fangled gadgets they created. Dee remembers mostly of that day how the people at the crossings would curse at him and shake their fists in madness at Bill for what he was doing. Bill was not a religious man but the wrath of Minnie his wife, surely was. Dee remembers a time that Bill who Chewed and took Snuff was not allowed to have it in the house and Grandpa Bill would hold his head back to keep from spitten in the house. Grandma Minnie would get on to him and say " Get Out Side And Spit Before You Drown Yourself" Dee remembers going to the Fair with Grandpa Bill in which Bill loved the Fair. Dee remembers how they would lay sawdust on the ground filled with pennies nickels and dimes for the kids to find and Bill would stand ther and let Dee have at it on finding what he could. Dee found this to be a special moment in his life to be with Grandpa Bill and on Feb. 6th 2007 at the age of 88 he shared it with me to write into this Genealogy forever etched in his mind as a child.
Dee's mom, Pearl D. Davis was my Great grandfathers sister Lawrence Lester Davis.
