He had been a resident of Cowley County since he was 15 years old, and was a resident of Winfield from 1922 to 1936. Plans for funeral services have not been completed. Mr. Simmons was born April 21, 1858, at Jamestown, Indiana. After coming to Kansas he lived at Dexter until he came to Winfield in 1922. Since 1936 he has made his home at New Salem. Mrs. Simmons (May) died March 31, 1948. Surviving are five children: James L. Simmons, Boise, Idaho; Frank Simmons, Ocean Park, California; W. L Simmons, Clovis, California; John B. Simmons, New Salem, Kansas and Mrs. Lavenia Beggs, Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Boice, Abilene, Texas and Mrs. India Fowler, McFarland, California. Oldfield of the First Baptist Church officiated, and Mrs. Owen Nesbet and Mrs. John Schwantes furnished the music, singing two selections. Interment was in the Dexter Cemetery.
