Note: Sedan Times-Star - December 17, 2003 MR. ALLEN KIRKPATRICK Allen L. Kirkpatrick, 86, of rural Havana, died Friday morning, Dec. 12, 2003, at his home. He was born Sept. 11, 1917 in Ford County, Kan. to M. Alfred and Flossie T. (Butcher) Kirkpatrick. When he was 9 years old he moved with his family to a farm near Hewins, Kan., where they lived for a few years before moving to the Crum area northeast of Sedan, where they farmed and ranched. He attended St. Charles school northeast of Sedan. On June 18, 1941, he married Violet Irene Dye at Longton, Kan. Following their marriage, they lived in the Crum area, where they farmed and ranched. In September of 1942, Mr. Kirkpatrick entered the U.S. Army, serving in World War II with Company D 327th Glider Infantry in Central Europe. He was discharged on Dec. 12, 1945. Following his discharge from the Army, they purchased and moved to their farm and ranch west of Havana. Mrs. Kirkpatrick preceded him in death on June 7, 1990. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Niotaze and Havana. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Richard and Rita Kirkpatrick, Osawatomie, Kan:, Loyd and Barbara Kirkpatrick, rural Havana, Robert and Connie Kirkpatrick, rural Havana; four daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Frank Clubine, Iola, Kan., Judy and Duane Titus, Peck, Kan., Diana and David Blakemore, rural Havana, and Shirley and Ralph Taton, Bison, South Dakota; 21 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. James (Marie) Kirkpatrick, Longton, Kan. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Freddie Joe; six brothers and three sisters. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, in the First United Methodist Church in Sedan, with Rev. Jerry Bever and Rev. Dois Nix officiating. Burial will be in the Crum Cemetery northeast of Sedan with military services conducted by the U.S. Army, Ft. Riley, Kan. Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Southeast Kansas Division or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan was in charge of the arrangements.
