  U S A MRS. RUTH PICKENS DIES HERE TUESDAY Mrs. Ruth A. Pickens, 87, of Cambridge (Ks), died at 9:55pm Tuesday at Newton Memorial Hospital. She had been admitted January 19. Born June 27, 1872, at Denton County, Missouri, she was the daughter of B. C. and Mary Jane Smith. She was married to Levi Lewis Pickens April 02, 1893 at Winfield. Mr. Pickens died October 08, 1951. Mrs. Pickens came to Cowley County as a small child with her parents. She lived most of her life in the Cambridge area except for three years in Oklahoma and three years in Missouri. She was a member of the Cambridge Baptist Church. She is survived by three children, Alfred Pickens of Cherryvale, Kansas; Elwin Pickens of Bedford, Indiana and Mrs. Betty Cook of Cambridge; 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. May Rowe of Cherryvale, Mrs. William Yianakopolus and Mrs. Augusta Gillespie of Winfield; and a brother, John Smith of Blue Mound (Ks). A son, Sam Pickens died February 02, 1960. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday at the Cambridge auditorium with Rev. Blaine Honeycutt officiating. Burial will be in the Cambridge Cemetery with Miles Mortuary of Burden in charge. (Obituary taken from Winfield Daily Courier.) XXXXXXXXXXXX CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY Many friends and relatives from out of town and many from Cambridge were present for the Golden Wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Levi L.Picke in the Cambridge IOOF Hall Sunday. Following a covered dish dinner at noon, Mr. and Mrs. Pickens opened their many lovely gifts. A short musical program was given. Mrs. William Harlan and Mrs. Alfred R. Brown sang a duet, "In the Land Where We'll Never Grow Old," and Mrs. Brown sang a solo, "Silver Threads Among the Gold." Everyone joined in singing the Doxology, Miss Ileen Ledgerwood was at the piano. Among those present were Miss Dorothy Pickens, yeoman, second class, of Norman, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Pickens and Vera Jean from Sedan; Mrs. F. L. Patton of Pratt; Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Burns and Charles Lloy and Miss Ileen Ledgerwood of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. George Gillespie of Moline; Mr. and Mrs. Vyrl Smith and family and Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Smith of Waunetta; Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Pickens and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pickens and family, Mrs. Lois Peninger and Karon, Mr. John Abbott, Mr. and Mrs. William Maben and Mrs. John Hillier of Winfield, and many othe from the Burden and Cambridge communities. GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATION Attending the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Pickens Sunday in Cambridge at the IOOF Hall were all their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with the exception of their grandson, Lloyd Pickens, who is with the U. S. Army somewhere in Ireland. Those present were the three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Pickens and daughter Vera Jean of Sedan, and another daughter, Y 2-c Dorothy Pickens of Norman, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pickens and sons, Lewis a Bennie, daughters Phyllis and Lois Peninger and Lois's daughter Karon; Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Pickens and daughters, Shirley, Ruth Alice, and Jani Rae of Winfield; their daughter, Mrs. Alvin Cook and husband, of Cambridge; granddaughter, Mrs. Forrest Burns and family of Wichita. Mrs. A. R. Brown and Mrs. W. M. Harlan sang a duet. Mrs. Brown sang a solo and everyone sang the "Doxology." Miss Ileen Ledgerwood accompanied at the piano. The table decorations were roses and a large two-tiered cake with Fiftieth Anniversary decorations. Mr. and Mrs. Pickens received many beautiful gifts and cards.
