Claiborne County is bordered by both the state of Kentucky and the state of Virginia. Tazewell is the county seat and located about 40 miles northeast of Knoxville, the third largest city in Tennessee.
Claiborne County was established in 1801 and was formed from Hawkins and Grainger Counties. The county is named for William C. C. Claiborne, a judge of the Superior Court of Tennessee. He also served as governor of the Mississippi Territory and later as Governor and Senator of Louisiana until the time of his death.

Marriage 1 Nancy Martha SHARP b: 14 MAR 1807 in Arlington County, Virginia Married: 30 SEP 1827 in Patrick County, Virginia 1 Event: Family Photo in Photo of Nancy Martha Sharp in her later years. Came from Vivian Anderson. Note: Some where down the line this family changed their spelling of SANDIFER to SANDEFUR. I do not know the reason for this than maybe one of the family members couldn't read or write and so when filling out papers of any sort the names would have been spelled different. Sheldon seemed to have took to the name change but the branches are the same family. Children G.
