Note: H00025 Note: Known as "Jim", he was employed as a farm labourer when he joined the 20th Hussars (13th Reserve Cavalry Regiment) on February 13, 1908. Given the number 2172, he saw action at the First Battle of Ypres (Oct-Nov 1914). Badly wounded, he was discharged as a Lance-Corporal on June 21, 1915, and deemed no longer physically fit for war service. After the war, he moved to Leicester, where he was employed as a labourer. Having married Nellie, they initially lived at 19, Green Street, Leicester. However, they later moved to 234, Park Road, Loughborough, where he was employed as an engineers maintenance painter at the Brush Falcon Works. He died at Loughborough General Hospital having fractured his skull after accidentally falling from a ladder. He and Nellie had one child.
