a. Note:   rovince of France in the year 1845. She died in Castroville, Texas June 24, 1917 and therefore was 71 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Tondre came to this country with her parents in 1852 while a little girl and has since lived in Castroville and the immediate vicinity, until the time of her demise. She was happily married to Celestin Tondre in San Antonio, Texas in the year 1869. Of their union 11 children were born of whom six daughters i.e., Mrs. Andrew Mechler, Mrs Louis Moor, Mrs. Katie Reus, and Misses Anna, Adella and Pauline Tondre; 2 sons, Henry and Celeste survive her. Her husband died in 1910. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Katie Nicholas and two brothers, Judge Peter Hoog of Castroville and Joseph Hoog of San Antonio. Mrs. Tondre had been in bad health for some time and had been confined to her bed for about three months. Her mortal remains were laid to rest in St. Louis Cemetery at 10 o'clock a.m. after a requiem High Mass in St. Louis Church, Rev Father A. Heckman performed the last sad rites of the Church. Mrs. Tondre has lived among us for 70 years and she has seen this country develop from a wilderness inhabited by Indians into a highly civilized farming community. The LEDGER extends its' condolence to the griefstricken children and relatives in their hour of sorrow. May she rest in peace.
