Note: uried in Zion Lutheran Cemetery (because he failed to make his Easter duties), Castroville, Medina County, Texas; Mother: Anna Maria Heuchling born 1844 in Saxony (Sachsen), Germany, married 29 Oct 1864, Buried in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. John Dehres, Jr and Anna purchased the home now known as the Castro Homestead in which they raised their 12 children. After John Dehres, Jr died, Anna found it hard to 'make ends meet'. She decided to move to San Antonio where she opened a boarding house at 117 River Avenue. It was a large two-story house filled with beautiful furniture and was known through the area for clean rest rooms and good food. The home in Castroville was turned over to the two oldest daughters, Maria and Catherine Mina. Catherine and her husband Charlie Heiligmann continued to raise the youngest girls (Amalie “Molly”, Emma, Theresa Adela “Della”, and Mary Ellen “Neda”). Charles Heiligmann was a partner with Mr. Tondre in a dance hall that was located down the street. Mina and Charlie having no children of their own, treated their young sisters as if they were their own daughters. With the death of Charlie, Mina and her sisters returned to San Antonio where they helped their mother at the boarding house. Anna, after several years of widowhood remarried a man by the name of Charles (or maybe George J.) Dusch. In 1910 while out feeding her chickens, Anna stepped on a rusty nail, which resulted in lockjaw and led to a very painful death. She is Buried in San Antonio Cemetery #6.
