  Our Great Grand Father starts as far back as I can remember at Conners Ville Brown County Ind. There was ? ???? Abner who remained at Conners Ville another of the 3 moved to Vincenes Ind his Sons were John and Harrison the 3rd Son John of the original ???moved to Santa Claus Spencer County Ind who was our Great Grand Father near whose home I grew up. His good Lady wife was French Rebecca LeHew for whom my Step Father was named he signed it Lehew Conner. The decendents of John Conner and Rebecca were 4 Sons my Step Father Lehew Abner Bradford and Lorenzo Dow. My Step Father wife was Rachel Brown Conner. She died leaving 3 small children James Brown Lemuel Emmet and Caroline Elizabeth. My Father died soon after birth of Sister Mary Jane Harris. 2 of us then ?????? of Lehew and Mother Clarice whose united Family Numbered 12 to Jolly around the table at meal time. Lehew and Abner were Christian preachers as well as farmers. As was their Father John. Abner had one daughter Jane and a number of Sons.
  2 all of whom were named after preachers. The oldest Mass short for Masterson Harris My Grandfather a preacher. Abners Father in law Bradford had 1 daughter Zephora and a number of Sons. L Dow had 3 children his beloved Son William who died young the girl daughter lost her life by burns attempting to kindle a fire for dinner. Their 3rd Son who lived to be married and inherited the ????home ??? him but a short time. Of the survivors I know of but Caroline and 2 or 3 cousins. Abner and possibly one of Bradfords. Of the 2 sons at Vincennes Member (?) John killed in civil war union side 1861 while Harrison a Farmer left 2 Sons John and Henry the latter the younger died in the South John met with an accident which blinded him and with that handicap amassed considerable wealth possibly living yet at Birds eye Ind.

  JOHN CONNER
  John Conner came to Spencer County about the year 1818 and lived on Corn Island two or three years. He then removed to Clay township and settled one mile south of Santa Fe, near a spring where Mt. Zion church now stands. The place was known as an old Indian camping ground, by the early settlers. The Red Men left, many relics to show that this was once their camping ground. John Conner had more than an ordinary education for a man of his day. He had quite an interesting library of books, was well versed in history and the Bible, and a very interesting talker. He was a faithful member of the Christian church. The Christian Church. He was a strong pillar of Mt. Zion church, the second church built in the township. He served the people of Spencer County as County Commissioner for twelve years. He was a strong Union man, a good neighbor and great lover of family. He married Prudy Lahu, and to this union were born four sons, named Lahu, Abner, Bradford, and Drew. The last named also served as commissioner of Spencer County for many years. His sons Abner and Lahu were Christian ministers, and followed the calling all their lives. His son Bradford was a Civil War veteran. "Uncle Johnie, as he was called in his latter days, died shortly after the close of the Civil War and was buried in Mt. Zion cemetery.
