MRS. JOSEPH PRIMMERnee MARGARET ELIZABETH STROHL Born 11 April 1843 Died 11 May 1922Burial: Bethel Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa, USA ObituaryMrs. Joseph Primmer, Elizabeth Strohl was born in Hocking County, Ohio, April 11th, and died at the home of her daughter , Mrs. S. B. Smith, near Arispe, May 11, 1922, aged seventy-nine years and one month. In 1861 she was married to Joseph Primmer, who six years ago, preceded her to their heavenly home,To them six children were born: Samatha J., Aaron C., Louis E., Mary L., J. Edward, and Clara E. The oldest child, Samatha, died in infancy and Mary, Mrs. Allen Zantz, died March 1917. Mr. and Mrs. Primmer were Pioneers of two states. Their early married life was spent in their native state, Ohio, and all their children were born there. In 1892 they came to Sae county, Iowa, and located in 1885 in Ringgold county on a farm near Clearfield. Since that time the family have been identified with the community life of Ringgold County and vicinity. Naturally of an earnest and thoughtful disposition, Mrs. Primmer early realized gods claim upon her life and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Soon after coming to Iowa she was a member of a little Sunday school conducted in a school house near her home. This was the first contact of the family with the Methodist church of which all are now members. In 1922 Mrs. and her husband joined the church at Grant Center. Diagonal charge, and her membership was here at the time of her death. Since her husbands death Mrs. Primmer has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Clara Smith, near Arispe, Iowa. About two weeks before her death she was suddenly taken sick in a way that indicated little hope of recovery. She herself fully realized that the end was near and calmly talked of her going. She was glad to go and be with her Lord and with the loved ones who had gone before. Her faith in immorality and her assurance of heaven was absolute and unwavering. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons and one daughter, eight grand children, and five great-grand-children. She was the last of her generation and one of the last of the Ohio members who came to Ringgold County and helped to mould the life and institutions of the community. As a hard working and efficient housekeeper, a faithful and devoted mother, a loyal neighbor, a helpful friend to every one who needed help, Mrs. Primmer had the highest esteem of all who knew her. Cleanliness, industry and fidelity to her home and friends were her ruling characteristics. Like Paul, she has fought a good fight, she has kept the faith, and we believe is today enjoying the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteousness judge has given her. Funeral services were held at the Diagonal Methodist church on Saturday, May 13, at two-thirty p.m., conducted by Rev. Jay Kirkendall, after which her body was laid to rest by the side of her husband in Bethel cemetery. Cards of Thanks We take this way to express our thanks to all the dear friends and neighbors who so willingly assisted in every way to help in the sickness and death of our dear mother; also for the flowers given her by the Ladies Aid during the last week of her sickness.
