The name Vogt first appeared in Berne, Switzerland in 1538. In the book SWISS GERMAN PIONEERS OF SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, by Eshleman, we learn of the action in all Switzerland against anabaptists, Mennonites, and other religous groups. Jonas Vogt and wife had several children born in Gelterkinden, most of whom died. Among the living were Barbara born in 1741, and Eva born in 1748. Jonas emigrated to North America from Germany in 1750, landing at Philadelphia, Pa., on August 15, 1750, from the Ship "Royal Union" Clement Nicholson, Commander, from Rotterdam. After qualifiying to become a citizen of the country, He moved his family to Northumberland County, near Chappel Hollow, and settled on a farm four miles east of New Berlin, now Union County, Pennsylvania
