Note: Note: This individual was found on GenCircles at: http://www.gencircles.com/users/rhockman/1/data/1809 Another source has his birth January 1710 at Gelterkinden, Canton of Baselland, Switzerland. This source has his death 1790, near Chappel Hollow, Union County, Pennsylvania. Emigrated in 1749 and arrived in Philadelphia 15 August 1750 aboard the ship Royal Union under the command of Clement Nicholson out of Rotterdam. He soon moved to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania to a farm four miles east of New Berlin (now in Union County). He and his wife lived to an old age and are buried in Driesbach Cemetery (Cemetery of The German Reformed Church, Chappel Hollow, Pennsylvania) near the old homestead at the old Country Church, a German Reformed Church, now known as the Reformed Church of the United States of America, of which both were devoted members. ------------------------ Note: spelling=Vogt,Fought,Voigt,Voght,Foght,Foucht. The name Vogt first appeared in Berne, Switzerland in 1538. In the book SWISS GERMAN PIONEERS OF SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, by Eshleman, we learn of the action in all Switzerland against anabaptists, Mennonites, and other religous groups. Jonas Vogt and wife had several children born in Gelterkinden, most of whom died. Among the living were Barbara born in 1741, and Eva born in 1748. Jonas emigrated to North America from Germany in 1750, landing at Philadelphia, Pa., on August 15, 1750, from the Ship "Royal Union" Clement Nicholson, Commander, from Rotterdam. After qualifiying to become a citizen of the country, He moved his family to Northumberland County, near Chappel Hollow, and settled on a farm four miles east of New Berlin, now Union County, Pennsylvania.
