Note: Isaac Ayres is the son of - Isaac Ayres - not confirmed. A typed document handed down to this writer from my Grandmother, Myrtle Adele Ayres Rannells states the following about this Ayres line: Typed by her father, John D. Ayres. Title: Genealogy and Records of the Family of William Henry Ayres. (John D. Ayres's father) Copy on file The old family bible which contained the family records and researches as far back as 1635, was stolen from our brothers home near Fairview, St. Louis Co. in 1876. The following is our recollections onf records therein and information from old family friends and acguaintances. Our Great-Great-Great Grandfather came to America about 1635 from Arcolis, a small place in England. We have heard from Mr. James Harding of Glasgow, Scotland, that they originally came from near Glasgow, Scotland and that an Episcople church stands in the environs of Glasgow dedicated to a Benjamine Warren Ayres, our Great-Great-Great-Great GrandUncle who was a resident of the neighborhood and many years back in the 1500's. Our ancestors, on emigrating to America, settled in New Port, New York. Our Grandfathers name was Isaac Ayres as was also our Great-Grandfathers. Our Uncle Isaac was born in Schnectady, New York in 1806. Our Uncle Benjamine Warren Ayres was also born there and the others were born in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. Grandfather Isaac Ayres married a Miss Emily Woodruff of Elizabethtown. Both died there somewhere along in the 1820's. There were six children as far as we know: Isaac, Benjamine Warren, Robert Wallace, Josephine Meca, Mary, and our father William Henry Ayres. Benjamine Warren, Robert Wallace, Mary and William Henry came to St. Louis about 1832. Josephine married Dr. Coons and lived and died in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary married Samuel Shanklin Rayburn of St. Louis and had one daughter, Virginia Rayburn. After the death of Samuel Shanklin Rayburn, Mary Ayres married Richard J. Lockwood, father of R. J. Lockwood of St. Louis. Mary was his second wife. Our Uncle Isaac went to New York City and engaged in the foundry business there for many years and at one time presented to the City a fire-engine, named Benjamine W. Ayres in honor of his brother, Benjamine W. Ayres a Colonel in the United States Army and fought through the Black Hawk War. Benjamine W. Ayres died in St. Louis in the 40's and was city alderman at the time of his death. He never married. Uncle Isaac had five children: Susan Emma, Frederick A., William Warren, Mary E., and Howard Ayres. Frederick A. died about 1870 in New York City. Susan E. married Allen Howard Beebe and lived in Bellville, New Jersey. Mary E. married Emitt N. Dyett and lives in Brooklyn, New York. Howard resides in Mount Clair, New Jersey and is married and has two sons and one daughter. 1820 Cenus - New Jersey - this census is not available. 1830 Census - Elizabeth Township, Essex Co., New Jersey lists a Isaac Ayres age 50/60 yrs old and living with the following: a male, age 10/15 yrs old (this could be my William) and females: 1 - 15/20 yrs old and 1 - 50/60 yrs old. This writer believes that the 50/60 yr old is Isaac and the female 50/60 is Lucy (Emily Ayres). The male could be William Henry Ayres and the 15/20 yr female could be Mary. I am assuming because of the document: Genealogy of William Henry Ayres (copy in files) states that Benjamine Warren, Robert Wallace, Mary and William Henry came to St. Louis about 1832. They probably came after the death of their parents.
