Note: Virginia Kathyrn Rannells was the oldest daughter of Charles Grover Rannells and Myrtle Adele Ayres.
1915 - Kathryn "Kat" was born in La Jolla, Calif. Birth certificate on file with this writer.
1920 Census - San Diego, Calif. lists a Virginia C. age 4 yrs old living with her parents, Charles G. Rannells age 33 yrs old and Myrtle age 30 yrs old. Also listed are children: Benjamin W. age 7 yrs old brn in Missouri, and Bernice M. age 6 months old brn in Calif. E.D. 247, sheet 4 line 80.
1932 - Kathryn Rannells graduates from La Jolla High School on June 24, 1932. Copy of diploma on file.
1936 - Kathryn married Winthrop Hayden Andrews when she was about 20 yrs old. She and "Wink" ran off to Yuma, Arizona and got married. According to the "story", her father, Charles Grover did not approve of the marriage and tried to get it annulled. Kathryn was pregnant and so they made the best of the situation. Winthrop was not a good husband (according to my Aunt Bernice) and Kathryn had to raise little Peter by her self most of the time.
1939 - Kathyrn and Wink divorced in 1939 and then Wink contacted turburculosis and died sometime in the 40's. Peter grew up in the house on 7453 High Ave, La Jolla, under the watchful eyes of his grandmother Myrtle ("Gomie") and his great grandmothers, Katie E. (Forse) Ayres and Ella Jane (Cooley) Rannells. 1944 - Marriage Record - La Jolla, Calif. - July 27, 1944 - Kathryn was single for about 7 years and then she met George David Stokely who was on leave in San Diego. George was in the Navy, WWII. According to Aunt Bernice, they met at a social club - dancing. They were married at the St. James Episcopal Church in La Jolla, Calif., and this writer has a newspaper clipping and a photograph of this couple at the church.
Kathyrn ("Kat") as Dad always called her, was a beautiful, tall, blond and was full of life. According to my Great Aunt Bernice: Kathyrn was a talented girl and if she wanted to - she could have gone to any good art institute she wanted because she was so talented in drawing and painting.
1967 - Death Record - La Jolla, Calif. - Kathryn died at the age 52 yrs old from cancer. Death record on file with this writer.
