  1850 Census - Bonhomin Township, St. Louis Co., Missouri - lists a William H. Ayres age 40 yrs old, a carpenter born in New Jersey, and living with his wife, Eliza M. age 30 yrs old born in Missouri and the following children: Benjamin W. age 7 yrs old, John D. age 5 yrs old, Robert age 3 yrs old and Sarah Ann age 1 yrs old, all children born in St. Louis, Missouri.   1860 Census - Central Township, near Rock Hill, St. Louis, Missouri lists a William H. Ayres age 48 yrs old living with his children: (his wife Elizabeth had died 1859) - Benjamin W. age 15 yrs old, John D. age 14 yrs old, Robert W. age 12 yrs old, Sarah S. age 10 yrs old, Johannah age 8, William H. Jr. age 6 yrs old, Harriett age 4 yrs old, Eliza age 1 yrs old and the following servants: Aba Marion age 35 yrs old from Ireland and her son John Marion age 6 yrs, John Robinson age 27 yrs old- a farmhand and James Saac age 26 yrs old a farmhand.

  1874 - St. Louis, Missouri Marriage Record - June 4, 1874 - John D. Ayres marries Kate E. Forse. (Note - this writer married her 1st husband on June 4 1966 - 92 yrs later - same day)
  1880 Census - St. Louis, Missour lists a J. D. Ayres age 33 yrs old - occupation is farming and he is living with his wife, Kate E. age 23 yrs and the following children: Albert W. age 5 yrs, Benj. W. age 2 yrs and a Hallie Gore - age 23 yrs, she is John D. sister, Harriett.

  1900 Census - St. Louis, Missouri lists John D. Ayres age 52 with wife, Kate E. age 46 yrs and the following children: Benjamin W. age 22, Edgar W. age 19 yrs, Mary D. age 16 and my grandmother, Myrtle A. age 10 yrs old.
  1910 Census - St. Louis, Missouri lists a John D. Ayres age 63 yrs old living with his wife, Katie E. age 56 yrs old and the following children: Mary D. age 26 yrs old, Myrtle A. age 20 yrs old, Bernice M. age 15 yrs old. Occupation for John D. is listed as owner of Hotel on Green Avenue in St. Louis City. E.D. 0351, sheet 48.
  1912 - Death Notice - A newpaper article states that on Feb. 9, 1912 at 9:50 a.m. John D. Ayres at the age of 65 yrs and 6 months, died. He was the beloved husband of Kate E. (Forse) Ayres and the father of Albert W., Mamie D., Benjamin W., Myrtle A., and Bernice M. Funeral will be Saturday, February 10, at 2:00 p.m. from the family residence and interment will be private.
  John Daggett Ayres wrote many poems to his wife, Katie E. and this writer has many of those poems. John D. wrote to Katie on June 4, 1885, "Whom I married on June the 4, 1874 because I loved her and was not happy without her - Eleven years have passed away and no regret has come to me for my act in my absence. I preface this book for her - that she may know though away from her side - I do not forget her." Signed, John D. Ayres.
