Note: [Br�derbund WFT Vol. 13, Ed. 1, Tree #1333, Date of Import: Sep 14, 1998] John Hall was a clerk in a store operated by his cousin, Hall Smith, in Ashtabula, Ashtabula Co., Ohio. He taught school for 12 years, was a medical doctor, and a minister. He is referred to in family records as Parson John Hall. At age 22 he left Lee, Massachusetts, Jan. 10, 1811, on foot for Ashtabula, Ohio, reaching there Feb. 7, 1811, walking most of the way --- a trip of 487 miles. He was the first merchant's clerk in Ashtabula. He boarded with his future father-in-law, Rev. Joseph Badger, father of Sarah. His second wife was Harriett Paddock Wilcox, daughter of Joseph and Louise (Strong) Paddock. She was born Feb. 3, 1800, in Stockbridge, Berkshire Co., MA, and died Dec. 18, 1833 at Ashtabula, OH. They were married Nov. 30, 1829. His third wife was Purdee Tracy Chester, daughter of Eleazer and Purdee (Rogers) Tracy, who was born Oct. 6, 1853, at Norwich, New London Co., CT. She was a ninth generation decendant of Rev. John Rogers, who was burned for his religious principles at Smithfield, England in 1555.
