a. Note:   p. 25 "Ed" Benton was constantly in trouble, and was arrested and charged on
 man occasions for stealing horses. Texas records [not cited] show that
 he was charged in horse theft cases there on 3 May 1866 and on 24
 October 1866. He was shot and killed by a man named Palmer from
 Colling County, Texas in the Chamber Creek Botom later that year. He
 was 16.
