I only knew Grand Pa Charles in his older years. I wish I would have gotton to know him better... He was a Tall Stright Man. He always appeared Proud. He had good looks and a cleft in his chin. We Whitts often call it a "Whitt Chin." I think He was a good example of the Whitts. SS#228-03-5547 Baptized by the famous traveling preacher Brother Robert (Bob) Sheffey. Charles Henry Whitt was a coal miner, Member United Mine workers lu # 6199, Retired 1947. Member Red Men Oaha Tribe 28, Raven, VA. He did Photography work in the early 1900's, he drove a truck in the 1930's. He played Organ, and Piano by ear. A member of the KKK at one time! Charles Henry Whitt & Amanda Puckett Whitt moved their family from Maple Gap in Russell County, a few miles to west Raven, Tazewell County where he bought a house from E.J.& Maude Johnson on 20 Oct 1917. Charles Henry Whitt Paid $1000.00 for the house and large lot. The lot joined the old Methodist Church which was considered to be in West Raven, Tazewell County, Virginia. The church was a two story wooden structure painted white. Many called it the old white church. The second story was the home of the Red Men Lodge, which both my Grandfathers were members. The bottom floor was used by the Methodist, and is where my father Marvin Bertran Whitt was a member and took the family regularly.
