Note: Henry A. Drake, Sr. 1998-06-18 WEST PARIS Henry A. Drake, Sr., 94, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at the Ledgeview Nursing Home, where he had been a resident. He was born in Kingfield on August 3, 1903, the son of the late Ernest E. and Carrie (Lothrop) Drake. He received his education in Livermore Falls Schools. On August 14, 1932, he wed the former Ruby Chamberlin, who predeceased him in 1983. He had called West Paris his home since 1995, coming from Dryden, where he lived for 10 years, and Livermore Falls, where he moved in 1941. An employee of International Paper for more than 25 years, he worked in the lower mill in Livermore Falls for 23 years as a grinder operator. A member of the Senior Citizens Association in Dryden, he also belonged to the Odd Fellows of Canton. An avid candlepin bowler, he enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling. He loved his family and will be remembered for the advice he would give to his family on raising children. Mr. Drake was often heard saying, `You will have a handful with that one.' Surviving are two sons, Henry Jr. and his wife Corinne of Kents Hill and Glendon and his wife Sandra of Hebron; two daughters, Emily Allen and her husband Chester of richmond and Sylvia Allen and her husband Ashley of West Paris; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Her was predeceased by a daughter, Dawn De Etta, who died in 1938; his stepmother, Viola, who raised Henry; four brothers, Bernard, Ralph, Lester and Roy and three sisters, Lena Hatch, Ruth Tardy and Mary Bean. Funeral services were held Sunday at the West Sumner Baptist Church. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Canton. Officiating at the services was Rev. Mr. Larry Thurlow. Serving as bearers were Dennis Allen, Bill and Adam Keach, Tim, Terry and James Drake.Those who wish make make memorial donations in Mr. Drakes' memory to the Maine Cancer Society, PO Box 553 DTS, Portland, ME 04112.
