Note: Michael, who was the second eldest brother, arrived in New York on the ship 'Aleppo' in May 1866. William followed him in August of the following year, buying passage on the 'Tarifa', with his friend Patrick. Together the three men opened accounts on 5th October 1867. They even have sent some money back to Ireland for their one remaining brother. Michael did not obtain his citizenship until 27th October 1871. Interestingly, his former nationality is described as 'English' and, like his brothers his occupation is shown as 'Mason'. By this time Michel was living at 216 5th Street, which, if the Directory of 1869 is correct, was just two doors away from his previous address. In 1871, the Witness to his naturalisation was Bernard Duffy - a man from 778 2nd Avenue. Michael's naturalisation was completed at the Common Pleas Court. The Supreme Court (where his three brothers were naturalised) had by this time abandoned the practice and would not re-initiate it until1896.

Note: Certificate Number 21775. Michael's cause of death is given as 'Acute Hepatitis'. At this time, he was living in a tenement house at 515 St. Mark's Avenue and the doctor writes that 'I attended the deceased from November 15, 1915 to November 21 1915, that I last saw him alive on 21st day of November 1915, that death occurred....at 9pm. The undertaker was hired by his nephew, William Connell or 'Correll'.
