Note: William T. apparently grew up in or around Lexington and served as a Private in Captain David Todd's Company, 1 Reg't. Kentucky Mounted Vol. Milita in the War of 1812. He served from August 27 to November 5, 1813 and was paid $8 per month, plus 40 cents per day allowance for use of his horse. The company muster roll is from Limestone, Kentucky and he received a total of $46.98 for his two month and 10 day- service in the war of 1812. He later made application and received 40 acres of land for his service in the war of 1812. According to his family Bible, William T. McCallie married Mary Higgins on February 16 or 22 in 1816 . (Note: Originals from Family Bible for his marriages and births of his children are in the National Archives in Washington, D.C.. His third wife apparently cut them out of the family Bible and submitted them as proof of Bounty Land Claim No. 259, 454, in 1857. They are all written in his handwriting which was a beautiful script, but sometimes altered, such as his first marriage date. It looks like it was originally 16 and then changed to 22. Also, John Hanks McCallie has been altered to become John Henry McCallie. Somtime during this period, the family moved from Kentucky to McMinn County, Tennessee. It was prior to 1829 since William T. McCallie is listed on the tax roll in McMinn County in 1829. The McMinn County, Tennessee, Court House records indicate that William T. McCallie applied for a marriage license to marry Elizabeth Perryman on 16 October 1838, and was married on 25 October 1838 by William McKamy, Justice of the Peace. This is recorded on Marriage Book C, Page 9. There were no children born to this marriage, and apparently Elizabeth Perryman died because Willliam T. McCallie applied for a marriage license to marry Mrs. Mary Forgey on 16 September 1842 and they were married by Joel Culpepper, Justice of the Peace, on 18 September 1842. This is recorded in Marriage Book C, Page 62. Family legend reports that Mrs. Mary Forgey's maiden name was Hanks and that she was a cousin of Nancy Hanks, the mother of Abraham Lincoln. The following was recorded in the 1850 Tennessee Census: McCallie, William F. , 62, Mary 27, Fanny Swinford 21 (apparently a friend or boarder) , Alice E. McCallie 5, John H. 3. Husband born in Kentucky, wife born in Tenn. (McMinn 446-506). William T. McCallie died on 2 September 1850 at the age of 62 in Calhoun, McMinn County, Tennessee and is buried in Shiloh Presbyterian Cemetary in Calhoun, Tennessee. (Located on North Main Street, Calhoun, TN.) His will reads as follows: "I, William T. McCallie, do make and publish this as my last will and testament hereby revoking and makin void all ther wills by me at any time made.
