Note: N3 Served in WW11 and Korean Conflict/ suffered serious injuries in Korean Conflict...awarded Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross, Medically retired as a Capt. "A longtime resident of Orlando and Winter Park died on Monday, December 13, 2004. Born in Manhattan, New York, Don attended Tenafly High School in Bergen High School in Bergen County, New Jersey, Horace Mann Prep School, Rutgers University, Auburn University, and the University of Florida. A past National Commander of the Legion of Valor, past National Commander of The Military Order of the Purple Heart, a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. A charter life member of the 15th Infantry Regiment Association, lifetime member of the Blinded Veterans Association, a lifetime member of the Retired Officers Association, life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, member of the military Order of the World Wars. He is a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree) and a member of the Citrus Club, life member of the Elks, and the University of Florida Alumni and was an avid fan of all "Gator" and Army sports. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Alice. Survived by his daughters, Diane Arthur Kennedy (Wayne), Babette E. Arthur; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his brother, Thomas J. Arthur; sisters, Ellen Arthur and Rosemary Freda. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 16, from 2-4PM at the Lake Ivanhoe Chapel of Baldwin- Fairchild Funeral Home. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, December 17, 9AM at the Chapel of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N. Park Avenue, Winter Park. Interment will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Park, Winter Park, with full military honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard, Fort Stuart, GA. "You didn't sign up to win the Congressional Medal of Honor, but earned it at the intersection of happenstance and hell and you were there because that's what your country has asked of you."
